Purposes of the Lake Champlain Retriever Club, founded in 1965, are

- to stimulate an interest in and encourage the use of trained retrievers for hunting as a wildfowl conservation tool;

- to stimulate interest in and encourage members to perfect, by selective breeding, retrievers most suitable for such work;

- to promote the training of retrievers, and

- to conduct field trials and hunt tests, licensed by the AKC, NAHRA and/or HRC/UKC, under the rules of the American Kennel Club, NAHRA, Hunting Retriever Club, Inc., and/or United Kennel Club.
